A Guide to Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Fruili is a diverse region as you can find snow in summer months, remote alpine villages, country villas, mountain huts and Roman archaeological sites. There are even long beaches, rocky coastlines, lagoons, and picturesque fishing villages. There is something for everyone. It is a beautiful border region full of museums of historical and cultural interest and a variety of architecture styles. The Basilica in Aquileia, once an important city of the Roman Empire, is also well worth a visit. Then there is Trieste - city of the “three roads” - as it was defined by Umberto Saba, a native of the region. James Joyce, Italo Svevo and Umberto Savo have highlighted the beauties of Trieste in their masterpieces.
