A Guide to Cordoba

Like many other cities in the region, Cordoba has had influences from all over the world. Originally a roman settlement founded in the early 8th Century there are also clear instances of Muslim influence on the architecture throughout the city. The city has many have argued the most beautiful building in the whole of Spain.

This is La Mezquita one of the surviving palaces of the city. One of the most fascinating sites in the city is the Mosque-Cathedral, which combines the architectural styles of both Christianity and Islam. The Cathedral has housed both religions at different times in history and is a fascinating example of the two different religions in one building.

There are many other attractions in the city including the many forts, which have defended the city from many attacks from North Africa. The night Life in Cordoba is one of the best in the region with many restaurants and bars in the area serving delicious regional cuisines and the bars are open long into the night and entertain one of Cordoba’s favoured pastimes The Flamenco. The dance is still hugely popular today and indeed many of the leading figures in the Flamenco are from Cordoba.

If you are fortunate enough to arrive in the city at the right time you might be able to watch the many shows that are put on throughout the year. Cordoba is a wonderful example of traditional southern Spanish life and should definitely be on any list for places to visit.
