France Normandy

A Guide to Caen

Caen is one of the main ports between England and France, and is not the most beautiful place in the country though may be worth a trip around the town when you arrive or if you are waiting for a ferry. The town has a few attractions, which could keep you entertained for a few hours, such as the Musee des Beaux Arts and the Musee de Normandie.

There are also two Abbeys in the town; The Abbaye aux Hommes founded by William the Conqueror and the Abbaye des Aux founded by Williams’s wife Matilda. There is also a market perfect for buying regional food and souvenirs.

Caen is a town perfect for a stopgap while waiting to move on to the next town or waiting for a ferry to go to England.
