France Midi-Pyrenees

A Guide to Montauban

Situated 45 miles from Toulouse and built on the banks of the River Tarn, Montauban is a prosperous provincial city conveniently on the Bordeaux to Toulouse trade route. Historically founded in 1144 it was created as a Bastide and is thought to have been the model used when many of the medieval towns were built.

There are many sites to see in Montauban including the Church of St Jacques, the Pont Vieux that gives a beautiful view of the river and perfect for taking long walks.

For all art lovers there is also the Musee Ingres which houses an exhibition of Ingres art work which is definitely worth a look.

Montauban is a city worth visiting for an afternoon if you are in the area and displays the French charm and ambience typical of the area.
