France Midi-Pyrenees

A Guide to Albi

Albi is approximately 55 miles train ride from Toulouse. Its main attractions are the fantastic art museum (Musee Toulouse Lautrec), which contains many of the works by the famous French painter Toulouse Lautrec. Also from the museum there are beautiful gardens with stunning views of the river.

It also has a fantastic Gothic Cathedral in the town, which was built in 1280 and is an enormous structure, which is more about its sheer size rather than trying to be aesthetically pleasing. However once you get into the building the interior decoration is stunning with a blend of Flemish and Italian workmanship.

Albi is a town dwarfed by its Neighbour Toulouse and is a perfect place to stop off for a few hours especially if you are an admirer of Lautrec’s work.
