France Lorraine

A Guide to Metz

Metz is known as the capital of the region of Lorraine and is situated on the banks of the river Moselle and can be dated back to Roman times when like now it was on the major trade routes. It became so powerful and wealthy that it declared itself an independent republic and remained so until 1552 when it was reabsorbed into France.

It was again taken away by the Germans during the Franco-Prussian war and then reclaimed after the First World War and again lost and reclaimed during the Second World War.

The city has a magnificent Cathedral as its main attraction and has stunning gardens, which are extremely beautiful when in full bloom during the summer. There is also the football team in the city perfect to go and watch for all those sports fans.

The city like the many other towns in the area is very typical of the area but is also influenced by other nations during its occupation. It is situated in a perfect setting with beautiful scenery perfect for exploring the area and taking long walks along the river in summer when the foliage is in full bloom.
