France Loire Valley

A Guide to Orleans

Located approximately 60 miles from Paris, Orleans is the northern most city of Loire Valley. The city is very much celebratory of Joan of Arc and her achievements over the English. The Cathedral in Orleans was the sight in which Joan of Arc celebrated her victories. The Cathedral is one of the main attractions, which is uniformly Gothic.

There are many other sites in the area including the Musee des Beaux Arts that is home to many 17th Century French artworks. For all history buffs there is the Maison de Jeanne d’ Arc which is a recreation of the house where Joan of Arc lived.

Joan of Arc is not the only historical figure to have a connection with the city as John Calvin, who built on much of the work done by Luther with the Reformation, studied at the Salles des Theses, which are the remains of the medieval university.

There is also treasure in the city housed in a historical and archaeological museum at the Hotel Cabu.

Orleans is a fantastic city full of historical memorabilia with a huge number of sites and attractions to entertain anybody. The town also has a fantastic nightlife with many bars and restaurants ready to serve you every need and party long into the night.
