A Guide to Nimes
The town is thought to be the link between the regions of Provence and Languedoc; it has been heavily influenced by Rome. The architectural ruins of the Arenes looking identical to the majestic Colosseum of Rome are worthy cause for a visit to the town in their own right.
The town is now attempting to try and wrestle away some of the power of the region from Montpellier, by employing many of the well known architects of toady to try create a new feel to the city.
There are many museums in the town including the Musee d’Art Contemporain, which displays many of the works of the artists of Modern French and Western European era.
Another major influence from the Romans can be seen through the Maison Caree which is a stunning temple noted for its equal proportions and it was used by Napoleon as the template for the Church of the Madeleine in Paris.
The town is a fantastic site and perfect for learning about the history of the area and has a vibrant nightlife with delicious restaurants serving regional cuisines and bars and clubs which party long into the night for all those who enjoy nightlife the towns is only rivalled by that of Paris.
