A Guide to Montpellier
Often thought of as the most dynamic city of the south only rivalled by Toulouse, Montpellier has been a centre of trade and intellectual activity for many centuries. This centre of learning is emphasised by the fact that it brought in people from countries throughout the world.
There has been many events in its history which have put a dampener on its growth such as being sold to France, being destroyed for harbouring Protestants and when the wine trade had a major depression, but in spite of all this the city is still one of Frances major cities.
There are many museums in the cit showing the heritage of the town and the city as well as a beautiful theatre and if you’re lucky you might be able to catch a performance at this wonderful building. The Cathedral is a must visit attraction showing the classic architecture of the region.
For all those that love sport there is also the Montpellier rugby team playing in France’s top league and if you get the chance you should go down and catch the wonderful atmosphere at one of the cities favourite past times.
And if you want to have a nice stroll amid some stunning scenery but don’t have time to go out into the surrounding area there is the fantastic Jardin des Plantes that are France’s oldest Botanical gardens and are absolutely beautiful when in full bloom in the summer.
Montpellier is a stunning town, which many say has been one of the most productive and prominent cities in the country.
