A Guide to Rennes
The city of Rennes has been the capital of Brittany since 1530, and had the potential to be one of the most beautiful cities in France but unfortunately in the 1700’s a carpenter while drunk accidentally set fire to his workshop and the fire spread throughout the city. Though much of the city was destroyed some of the city still survives. This medieval quarter is situated on the river and its main attraction is the Porte Mordelaise.
One of the most beautiful sites in the town is the recently restored Palais de Parlement, which is decorated by stunning statues along the top of the roof. There is also the Musee des Beaux Arts that displays exhibitions of French Impressionists and on occasion there are drawings by many famous artists including Leonardo Da Vinci, and Botticelli amongst others.
Rennes is a quiet quaint French town perfect for soaking up the atmosphere of the region and is an ideal town to visit while passing through the area.
