A Guide to Montepulciano

This is the highest town in Tuscany and one of its most beautiful. It under went significant changes during the Renaissance period and this led to a feast of revolutionary architecture. After the town gates and walls were rebuilt many of the churches also adopted the elegant architecture of the Renaissance. Architects such as Michelozzo, Antonio da Sangallo and Pietro Budelli were attracted to work in Montepulciano.

Places of interest for visitors include the following: Museo Civico, Palazzo Budelli, Palazzo Comunale, the Temple of the Madonna of San Biagio and the Church of St Agostino. The town is famous for its wine, the Vino Nobile, which is produced in the surrounding countryside. The towns festivities reflect on the town’s history and include the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte the Bruscello, and the Bravio with period costumes.
