A Guide to Trentino Alto-Aldige

In the far North of Italy is Trentino-Alto Adige, which borders Austria and Switzerland to the north, Veneto to the east and south, and Lombardy to the west.
The Alpine climate dominates the region with cold and snowy winters, cool summers and wet springs and autumns. A milder climate can be found in some of the dells of the Adige valley. As there has been very little human intervention in the natural landscape of the region, its original beauty and flora and fauna have been preserved..

The region is mainly mountainous with a wealth of rivers and lakes. The valley of the river Adige splits some of the mountains in two. To the west one finds the glaciers of the Adamello-Presanella-Care Alto and Brenta clusters. To the east the groups of Lagorai, Latemar, the Dolomites of Fassa, and the Pale di
S. Martino. There are numerous Alpine valleys including the Valsugana, the Vallarsa, the Val di Non, the Val di Sole, the Val di Cembra, Fiemme and Fassa, Garda, Caldonazzo, Tovel and Ledro make up the main lakes of the region. This region also hosts three spectacular natural parks: Adamello-Brenta, Paneveggio-Pale of S. Martino and Stelvio.
