Description

The Cipriani may be one of the world's most exclusive hotels, but it also offers an exceptionally warm welcome to visitors to Venice - a true home away from home. With the elegance of a private club and the advantage of being at the heart of the city, but gently removed from its hustle and bustle, it is the perfect base for discerning travellers.

The hotel's windows overlook the basin of St. Mark's, the Palladian church of San Giorgio and distant islands of the lagoon. Within the hotel's own grounds are fabulous gardens with breathtaking views over the water.

Guests arrive by private launch, after the short ride from Piazza San Marco, and are immediately immersed in a feeling of peace and tranquillity. A day here is made up of layers of wonderful experiences, from luxuriating beside the swimming pool bar to lunching in the Gabbiano Restaurant under coloured awnings. In the evening it is magical to dine by candlelight in either of the hotel's two restaurants: the Cip's Club in the Palazzetto or the Fortuny Restaurant.

When night comes, your room key opens up to a beautiful dreamscape - only this is reality. Rooms and suites range from the simply elegant to those richly furnished with antiques and beautiful artworks. For an extra special experience, the Dogaressa suite at Palazzo Vendramin, the three spectacular Guinness suites or the Palladio supersuite await.

Venice, which has been floating for over 1500 years is one of the most beautiful and culturally rich cities in the world. Is undoubtelly magic, a pearl of ancient beauty, certainly to be considered without rivals anywhere in the world for its structure and atmosphere. It is impossible to visit it without being enchanted by the majesty of its old buildings, which vainly love to gaze at their reflections in the many canals that divide it up, even in its most remote corners.

Giudecca is only a short gondola ride from San Marco and in the 18th century was Venice’s “garden of delights”. Alongside noble residences (such as Palazzo Vendramin, Palazzo Dandolo, Palazzo Barbaro Nani) there were modest “pavilions” for shorter stays, called “casini”.

Today the Giudecca is much changed, but some of the gardens which were the favourite summer retreats of the Venetian noble families still exist.
There were convents (such as Zitelle and le Convertite), Academies, like the Academy of Philosophy, the Convito dei Nobili vineyards where the city dwellers, normally confined to narrow alleys, could enjoy fresh air and open spaces, as well as the then famous “vin salso”, called in this way because of its characteristic salty after-taste, due to the vicinity of the lagoon. Highlights include:

    Santa Maria dei Miracoli Church
    Modern art at the Guggenheim
    The frescos of San Sebastiano
    San Trovaso gondola workshop
Art and architecture of the Scuole
    Synagogues of the Ghetto
    Sunset stroll on the Zattere
    Taking the Traghetto
    Rialto fish market
    Paintings in a peaceful palazzo
San Pietro di Castello: its church and canals
    Frescos and icons
    Concerts in San Rocco
