A Guide to Annecy
Annecy is renowned as one of the most beautiful and most popular resorts in the French Alps. Historically it became a refuge for Catholics fleeing Geneva after the city turned to Protestantism after the reformation. The town contains a number of Palaces and Chateaus within its walls many of which have now been converted into museums.
This is especially true of the main Chateau, which was converted into the Musee du Chateau, the Palais de l’Ile, which was a 12th Century fort and since then has been a court, mint, a prison during the Second World War and is now the Musee de l’Histoire d’Annecy which chart the history of the town.
The town is set amid glorious scenery with the stunning turquoise blue lake Annecy. To the east are the peaks of La Tournette and to the west are the acres of woodland. The whole area is perfect for taking long walks and hiking.
