Commanding views of Lake Michigan and the skyline are showcased throughout the hotel from angled windows, including a ballroom with skylights and views of the John Hancock Center. Hotel Expert's Tip. French ambiance and European composition surrounded me as I embraced the history of the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, an architectural wonder of its day in the Gold Coast neighborhood of downtown Chicago, Ill., designed in the shape of a prism by famed French architect Jean Paul Viguier.
