Description

Location. The central coast and international bustle of Waikiki Beach is adjacent to Honolulu, Hawaii's, Victorian Sheraton Moana Surfrider hotel. The resort opens onto Kalakaua Avenue and is just one block from the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and the International Market Place bazaars. Within one mile of the hotel are the Ala Wai Golf Course and the Hawaii Convention Center.
Hotel Features. The Victorian Sheraton Moana Surfrider holds her place in history as the first resort built on Waikiki. Descended from an era of honored tradition, the Sheraton Moana Surfrider continues a ritual of afternoon teas and sunset dinners on the Banyan Veranda accompanied by a banyan tree's canopy and a breezy courtyard overlooking the beach. The hotel's rich past is revealed three times per week via complimentary guided historic tours. Buffet style breakfasts are offered at the Beachside Café, while tropical drinks, lunches and dinners are served oceanfront at the Banyan Grill and Beach Bar. The hotel's freshwater pool and private beach area lends opportunity for water recreation. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel's public areas. Signing privileges at three other Sheraton hotels include use of the fitness centers, children's programs and the business center at a neighboring property. Meeting rooms and a ballroom are also on the property.

Guestrooms. The Sheraton Moana Surfrider features 793 rooms distributed across the Banyan building, the Tower and the Diamond wing, with many offering ocean views. Mahogany and oak accents fill each room. Bedding features custom pillowtop mattresses, Hawaiian quilts, triple sheeting and feather pillows. Rooms also offer mini fridges. Wood, marble or granite vanities adorn the bathrooms. Wired Internet access is available in each guestroom.

Expert Tip. I reveled in an unsolved mystery occurring in 1905 within this historic property, namely the supposed poisoning of Jane Stanford, wife of then California governor Leland Standford and co founder of Stanford University. Staff have since reported several sightings of a mysterious shadow lurking among the grounds.
